Came across a fun idea of taking songs like Twinkle, Twinkle and Jingle Bells and making them into spooky songs. I've used this ideas prior, yet it's tons of fun to do. The idea is a great way to hear and share about the differences between Major and Minor music. The melody is easier, with some half notes on the Bass Clef. This technique is great to help students understand how to improv or create a theme and variation of a commonly known song. The student(s) are encouraged to decide which notes to add sharps and flats to the melody or harmony in the Bass Clef. In fact today I was able to utilize Twinkle Twinkle Little Monster today when a parent of two siblings who are taking lessons share about an online improv class he took. I got so excited that I remembered seeing the Twinkle composing that I printed it off and the students created a fun arrangement of a song. We had a blast. Here is the link to two of the songs.
Another idea for early reading on staff composing ideas is called Eb Eeeeeek from teachpianotoday.com. The song used C-G in the Treble Clef, yet students are to play the song as written and then every E make it E Flat. I also did this composing activity and the student loved it.
What are some of your favorite Halloween Composing activities? Would like to know. Thanks for your support.
