Do You Tell People "I Don't Get Paid Enough for This"? Then we're missing a step.

Several years ago I did a Summer Music Theater Camp of a show choir, music-only Encanto Camp. It had shown in theaters prior and everyone knew the music so well. They learned vocals, choreography, staging, costuming in the camp, yet by Wednesday they were unmanagable, hard to stay focuses and potentially a fight broke out. I lost it completely, yelling at those who participated and after that I apologized. I realized that I can't lose my temper like that at all during a summer camp.

Fast forward today, Wednesday, June 3rd and I could tell that the kids were getting out of control when they got there. I asked everyone to stand on one leg and we said a pledge that we would not have any issues. Even after that, they were so talkative, that I almost lost it. I paused for a brief moment and realized I don't want to go back to that old way. We talked about it several times and even at the end about staying focused. Yet it was manageable, wild, yet possible to work with.

I mentioned to the actors/actresses that I don't get paid enough and they all agreed and we all got a good belly laugh. A humorous, however an valid statement. They are attending the camp to develop theater confidence and that's why I provide the music theater camps.

I had this thought today and it made me realize that serving and joy are not the reasons to say "I don't get paid enough for this". I get to help others develop confidence on stage and that brings joy.

I'm overwhelmed in the best way with the camp Flora and Ulysses Play. We're all learning together. Thats my favorite part. What are you learning or trying to impliment during summer music theater camps? Would like to know. Thanks for your support. Blessings.
