Last year I came across a book at our local library called "Pictures at the Exhibition" by Modest Moussorksky and I started teaching myself Promenade and made a YouTube of the song. Here is the YouTube Short:
After working on it, I decided to research, listening to Gnome, the second song in the collection that Moussorgsky wrote in about 20 days, a year after his friend's death. So today I took a risk to share an over twelve minutes video of me focusing on the first page. I'm showing the sloppiness and progress made over the many, many, many months of attempting the song at various tempos. I'm curious about the next song in this selection as I've been looking at it briefly, called "Das alte Scholb" or "Il vecchio Caltello". We'll see. There's even a song about baby chickens hatching, if I understood the translation well. LOL.
Hope you enjoy the first-ever attempt at a practice video. Maybe it will help. Let me know what you think.
I'm also slowly looking at Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin", Prelude (Movement 1), that I checked out at the library sometime last year. This is definitely an "opportunity" for growth for me. I believe these selections are based on a French Memorial after a war. Just a bit of what I'm understanding. I'm trying new music to help myself grow as a musician, performer and educator. Please send plenty of prayers. LOL.
What are you learning that's bigger than yourself? Would like to know. It doesn't have to be music or theater related. I'm just curious. Thanks for your support. Blessings.
