Theater Costume Shop and Local Thrift Stores for Costume Ideas

For many years as a theater educator, I've been looking for costumes that will work for Theater Summer Camps. Just wanted to share about some places I've found out about that have helped my business when looking for costume options that are local. Yes the businesses have other items, yet we're going to focus on costumes here.

I found out about a small business originally located in the Kansas City area called A to Z Theatericals, yet has a small store in Wichita located at 128 S Washington, next door to Meddy's Downtown. The small shop has some costumes, makeup, lights, paint, props, wigs, hats and more. The cost of the costumes ranges from $10-20, which are authentic. Check out the Wichtia store. The store in Kansas City only rents out costumes and sets, yet perhaps one day I can check out their retail establishment. Every person that I've talked to is so corgal and helpful.

Here's their website for the Wichita location:

The Kansas City website:

Passageways, Ltd, located at 1202 W Douglas, helps Veterans get back on their feet with furniture, potential housing options, clothes, needs for the hope. Their clothes are reasonably priced, for men and women clothes only, not kids clothes. The owners are doing everything they can to help Veterans get off the streets. Plus they have prom dresses that would make great costumes.

Here's their website.

Thrift for a Cause is a new place for me, located @ 767 N West Street, has reasonable prices for their clothes. Found some choir robes, hats, men's shirts and dresses perfect for costuming. Check them out.

Bunch of Stuff is another small thrift store that I found out about a bit ago, yet yesterday when my wife and daughter went there the owners were doing "garage sales" for a living. The husband had an exceptionally well-paying job and within a month he lost it and the store idea came about quickly after that. They play Christian music and love to serve their customers well.

Plus one of my many favorite places is Wichita Home Outlet, that sells bulk amounts of home decor and clothes, yet after speaking to the Managers and Employees who love those that participate in theater. They have prom dresses that would make amazing costuming, "Catholic School wear", boys prom suits and so much more. They are amazing people to collaborate with. Plus they give a 10% discount to USD 259 Employees, which I found out about this week.

Here's their website:

Again these are some Thrift Stores and a Costume Shop to check out for costume options. You have to be creative with what you find. What are some of your places you like to go to, whether locally or out of town? Would like to know. Thanks for your support. Blessings.
