Thought Worth Pondering

Last weekend this thought came to me, helping me to understand others and myself well. Once we learn a concept, we can teach it to others. Yet when we teach others, we learn about how they work, what motivates them, learning styles, and how they process information. Teaching is all about learning.

Last week, a student, Nathan and I learned a song from My Fair Lady called "I'm an Ordinary Man", where the character delineates his thoughts about being in a relationship with the woman in his life. Perhaps you might want to ban or cancel the song due to its content, but I was grateful that the student and I started learning the song together. The tempos constantly change at extreme speed, yet we took it slow.

Another student shared music from Julie and the Phantoms, a Netflix series about a musician whose mom passes away and the family is processing through it. The main character, Juile, meets three guys from an '80s band who die unexpectedly after eating hot dogs cooked on a car engine. I've only watched two shows of the series so far, so hopefully I learn more about it. Yet students are loving the music from the show, and I'm learning along with them. I've never claimed to know everything, yet I hope to continue to keep learning.

So let's keep learning more,, to help our students be successful. What are your thoughts about learning new music even if you don't know it? Would like to know. Thanks for your support. Blessings.
