Stand By Me Arranged By Roger Emerson
One of the goals is to try to get our voice students to sing more, even for those in-person and online. I have wanted to try this arrangement and decided last December that move forward in January. The song written by Ben E King, Mike Stoller and Jerry Leiber, a song later made popular in the movie Ghost, is a great arrangement for men learning basic harmony. The Bass part is very easy to learn (the range is from D-B below Middle C, just like the original song performed by Be

50's, 60's and 70's Dance Music for Piano Lessons
Last week I had a chance to do a Pee Wee Prime Time at our kids school, where it focuses on getting younger kids to read. The past years I've worked with the Kindergarten and 1st Graders where I'll winter music, rhythm cups, did a short play script, sing, read music related books. Yet this year I did some "crazy" idea of reading books about dancing and even taught them some basic dance steps. I taught them the basics of the Twist, where I researched options that would work we

Breathe
Before the Christmas time, I had an idea of making a one page song to help others feel relaxed and calm, to breathe for a moment. This week I finally had the chance to finish it up and even last week show it to a student who really liked it. I don't write much music, yet wanted to try to write about how important it is to breathe. The YouTube is underneath the jpg and the music is available on the site. Short Winter Composing
Early this week I had an idea about creating two short one page composing activity, to help students create music based on winter. I put the ideas on MuseScore and wanted to share them. (With MuseScore, I can't take the whole rests out. They will have to work around that part of the song. It's all good). Each of these composing activities will encourage writing a song and even creating lyrics that students will enjoy playing. The first is called, Let's Make a Winter Song, whe

Mixing Football with Other Sports Improv Game
My wife and I enjoy watching Football, occasionally the kids might. Any sports team has to develop cooperation, determination, heart, goals, exceptional coaching. Yet while watching some games recently I had a thought: what would happen if football got "mashed up" with other sport? The possibilities would be endless for improv. The students could "pretend" to play the sport, be commentators discussing what is occurring with each team, being the coach explaining the rules and

Bingo Piano Review Game
During the Christmas break I had a moment of inspiration to create a Bingo game and I ran with the idea. I researched options on how to create one that would look fun and easy to put together for Early to Late Elementary students. What appeared to be the best way was through Canva, an amazing tool for marketing and even creating games. What a blessing. Print off the games and cards (laminate if you want too), review the musical terms with the pictures and play Bingo. It's tha
