As we prepare for the first day of winter solstice, wanted to share an amazing song by Nikolas Sideris called Under a Winter Sun, (which I realized yesterday that this was the same song from last winter). With this day being the shortest of daylight, hope you take a moment to listen to a one page song filled with a lasting melody.
The song is written in the key of C, where the main selection is written in the Treble Clef with both hands. The selection is in 3/4, with a gorgeous dotted quarter, eighth and quarter rhythm flows in the right hand. Yet the section that really got my attention is the B section where Sideris creates a new form of the melody in the left hand, while the right hand plays dotted half notes, with ascending and descending thirds. This song is exquisite for later intermediate and early advanced, with sounds that really speak of the changing of the seasons, where he uses many sharps.
I hope you enjoy this selection and consider learning and teaching this selection to your students. Thanks for your support. Blessings.
